Granite Countertops

What are Granite Countertops?

Granite countertops are a coarse-grained igneous rock that forms from the slow crystalization of magma below the Earth’s surface. It’s composed primarily of quartz and feldspar with various other mineral deposits which can be seen with the naked eye. Granite is hard enough to resist abrasion, can support significant weight, resists weathering and can accept a brilliant polish.

Why Choose Granite Countertops?

Your natural granite slab is a one-of-kind durable piece of stone that can increase the value of a home. From subtle to bold, granite is full of many types of minerals resulting in shiny flecks to longer intense veining with overall hues from light to dark and a variety of colors. Granite stone also contains natural anti-bacterial and stain proof characteristics, and is water, scratch, and heat resistant. With these qualities, granite countertops are made to withstand a lot of wear and tear.

Granite Countertop Care

To keep your new granite countertop clean – use a mixture of warm water and mild dish soap for everyday cleaning, following up with a microfiber towel to enahnce the shine. Avoid abrasive, acidic cleaners or bleach, which can strip the sealer and etch the stone. If you use antimicrobial wipes, choose a product that states it is safe for stone. Do not use products that contain bleach as it can dull the finish of your countertops and may damage the sealer. If you’re uncertain, the safest thing to do is think of your countertops like your hands and wash with warm water and mild hand soap.

Sealing Granite Countertops

All granite countertops receive a 15-year sealer that protects against untimely spills and splashes. While your countertops don’t require regular resealing, it’s best to wipe up spills promptly. Continued exposure to acidic spills can cause etching or discoloration even when sealed.

StoneMark was wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable from the day I first walked in the showroom to the installation of my granite kitchen counter top. They did a beautiful job for a reasonable price. I am getting lots of compliments!

I highly recommend Stonemark for any of your countertops and surfaces! Tammy was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in helping us select the right product. Dani also helped tremendously when I was having difficulty making a final decision. Our installers were nothing but professional, friendly, and very focused on the job. They left nothing to even suggest I had a major installation going on, except for my beautiful new countertops! They left my kitchen spotless! I cannot thank Stonemark and their employees enough!
